The building of structures is more in-depth, with a video showing the player physically placing items where they need to go to build a shelter or a fire or mount a head on a stake. The new building demonstrations show the player having to take additional action to create such structures, cutting out windows themselves or sharpening a pointed barrier fence. For example, building a log wall would include a window without the player going through the trouble of cutting one out. In The Forest, items would simply manifest as whatever the player intended. One of the most significant improvements that have been shown from Endnight is the building mechanics. The cannibalistic creatures appear to have learned from their last encounter with outside forces, showing heightened intelligence in the trailers making them capable of better working together and using more tools. The trailer shows a new mutant with a mouth stretching down its torso, conjoined mutants, and an entire blob of amalgamated flesh with sentience. The arsenal isn't the only boosted element in Sons of the Forest, as the mutants appear to have also been upgraded as well. The advanced weaponry should help players battle the many mutants they will encounter on their journey. Instead of being limited primarily to melee weapons plus the occasional bow or sling, Sons of the Forest introduces guns, providing various firearms from pistols to shotguns. This new introduction also shows that Endnight has significantly bolstered the arsenal of the survivor. Instead of crash landing in a plane, a team of mercenaries or soldiers survive a helicopter crash onto the island. Sons of the Forest appears to start similarly to The Forest.
